Houston is one of the most famous cities in Texas and is host to a huge range of attractions and activities to participate in. Actually, our city has such a vast selection of things to see and do that it might be difficult to fit everything in to your visit!

We'd like to help you get the most from your visit to Houston so we've made a list of some of our favorite attractions and activities based on our knowledge of Houston below.

Top Things To See And Do In Houston

Here are a few of the most visited attractions and activities in Houston that might be of interest to you:

Byzantine Fresco Chapel
This touristic attraction will impress you, especially if you like religion. Inaugurated in 1997, the Fresco Chapel is home to a large collection of byzantine frescoes. No less than 38 pieces of history are available for you to discover at this chapel. It is also an important thing to say that these frescoes are unique in America. You can visit this chapel from Wednesday to Sunday between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Because it is under the direction of local authorities, the admission is free. Just make sure you allow yourself enough time to admire the entire collection.

Houston Museum District
Telling you to visit a single museum is simply not enough. That’s why I’m telling you to check out the Houston Museum District. This association is fully dedicated to promoting science and art, and it consists of 19 museums. The museum of fine arts, the museum of natural science or the museum of contemporary arts – these are only 3 of the most important names in the District. A good thing is that the museums are spread on an area of 4 square miles (9 square kilometers). Access to the museum is free but make sure you visit their official website to get the schedule for each museum.

The Galleria
While passing through Houston you cannot ignore the largest mall in the region. The Galleria spreads on an area of over 3 million square feet (278,000 square meters). This place represents the perfect way of spending a day, especially if you like shopping. An impressive number of brands, including the most popular ones are waiting for you. Besides shopping you can also check out the cinemas, fitness centers and restaurants. The Galleria is basically a small city inside Houston. It even has hotels and office areas. The only thing you need to make sure is that you have enough money in your pocket, because there are a lot of useful things around here.

Hermann Park
Having over 6 million visitors a year, the Hermann Park is definitely one of the most popular parks in America. The park covers an area of 445 acres; this means approximately 1.8 million square meters. Inside the park there are a lot of open-air theatres and gardens which often host concerts and events. You can also rent a boat and take a ride on the artificial lake. There are separate tracks for bicycles and specially designed playgrounds for kids. We recommend you to visit the park after the sun sets because the light show is impressive.

Houston Zoo
If you’re planning to visit the Hermann Park don’t forget to check out the Zoo as well, because the distance between these two is relatively small. Grizzly bears, jaguars, cheetahs, lions and elephants among many others can be admired at this zoo. With over 1.6 million visitors a year, this zoo is one of the most visited in America. About 5,500 animals from 900 different species you’ll get to see at Houston Zoo. You can visit the zoo daily between 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM but the last entry is made at 6:00 PM. The ticket price for an adult is around £15.
